Pakistan at Asian Games 2023: Javelin Throw
P.C. Leads Pakistan |
Pakistan was eyeing a medal in javelin throw in Asian games 2023.
But luck was against Pakistan as Premium javelin thrower Arshad
Nadeem pulled out of Asian games because of his knee injury and he
do not want to put his career and Olympics 2024 in danger as he is
automatically qualifying for Olympics after mighty throw of 87.82m.
On the other hand, Pakistan still had hope as Muhammad Yasir was
also participating in the event but it seemed quite difficult as he
was up against one of the world’s best Neeraj Chopra.
Arshad Nadeem’s absence proved to be unhelpful as Pakistan could
not secure a medal in Javelin throw competition. Muhammad Yasir
throwed his Heart out in the game but could not cross 80m line. He
came 4th with the throw of 78.13m left out by a huge
margin of 4.55m by a Japanese’s player Roderick Dean who throwed
javelin about 82.68m and secured bronze model in the medal
event.
It was expected that Muhammad Yasir will not be able to manage
distance above 80m. Other three players (two from India and one from
Japan) didn’t even break a sweat after crossing 80m line.
Considering the experience and exposure young Yasir had in National
and International event it was one of better throw even though it
was not his personal best but Asian Games and players from all over
world creates huge amount of pressure especially on a youngster.
First two positions in the event Belong to Indians in the event.
Neeraj Chopra threw javelin around 88.88m which was best throw of
this event and as expected he secured gold in the event. On the
other hand, Kishore Kumar Jeena who secured silver medal in the
event threw javelin around 87.54m
It was best opportunity for Kishore to secure silver as Arshad
Nadeem has capability to throw javelin further then 90m as we have
seen in Commonwealth Games 2022, and Kishore Kumar Jena grabbed this
opportunity from both hands.
This was major setback for Pakistan as they were expecting minimum a medal from Arshad Nadeem in the javelin throw event but was not the case. It is worth mentioning that Arshad Nadeem will be participating in Olympics, Paris 2024 javelin throw finals as he directly qualified from World Athletics Championship.
