Sarfaraz Ahmed not selected in Pakistan’s squad for WC 2023

Sarfaraz Ahmed, despite being in the best form of his life, did not make it to the One Day International World Cup Squad of Pakistan. After his performance in the Asia Cup, it was expected that Muhammad Haris would be left out of the team and Sarfaraz Ahmed would be included in the squad, as Muhammad Haris was not able to perform where he was given chances.

Considering the current form of Sarfaraz, he is in red-hot form as he is piling up runs in the Quaid e Azam Trophy 2023-2024. He is one of the top run scorers in the trophy. He is also doing his primary job of wicket-keeping very well.

Secondly, considering his experience, he could play a vital role even in a dressing room by encouraging players' motivation, and his experience could calm the nerves of many players in the dressing room. Similarly, Babar Azam (captain of the Pakistan cricket team) will also be able to get assistance as Sarfaraz Ahmed has the U-19 World Cup, Champions Trophy 2017, and PSL 2019 under his belt and can prove to be vital in the squad.

In conditions like India, where the pitch is not consistent, it is quite necessary to have players who not only smoke the ball all over the ground but also play pure cricketing shots. Babar Azam, Abdullah Shafiq, and Sarfaraz Ahmed are some of those players who provide stability to the batting order no matter at what number they bat and have a great ability to soak up the pressure, especially in crunch situations.

If we see the current squad of the Pakistan team, we see that there are a lot of new faces in the squad, which means that the team might fumble in pressure matches and situations.

It was also expected that Imad Wasim would also make a comeback, but he could not make a statement in front of selectors.

While statistics say that Sarfaraz Ahmed could play a vital role in the World Cup 2023, selectors baked Muhammad Haris as a wicketkeeper batsman and gave him another outing, whereas on the other hand, Sarfaraz Ahmed is focusing on his test career by performing in the Quaid e Azam trophy and scoring a huge amount of runs with a safe hand behind the wickets. Performing in domestic cricket will give him a lot of confidence and will help him score big (with Allah's will) in international cricket as well.

With all being said, as a nation, it is our prime responsibility to back our boys and don't create any controversies that might affect players mental conditions, which in the end affects their on-field performance. So we should refrain from any of those acts and keep supporting our boys.
